Dermatosis Papulosis Nigrans Treatment
Dr Ross Perry demonstrates instant removal of dermatosis papulosis nigrans at the London Skin Surgery & Laser Centre.
He explains:
“Here we have a treatment for dermatosis papillosis nigrams.
“This is a common condition in darker skin types, particularly as people get a bit older.
“They often start as small little lumps on the surface of the skin and can multiply as they get older.
“The treatment for this is a simple electrocautery and the lesions heal over about a week to 10 days afterwards. As you can see it’s a relatively painless quick procedure and gives an almost instantaneous result.
“If you’d like further information or to have this particular treatment, then please contact cosmetics and we’ll be more than happy to help.“
Dermatosis papulosis nigrans information
Dermatosis Papulosa Nigrans (also known as DPN) particularly affects darker skin tones. The condition is characterised by small brown or black spots between 1-5mm across. These small hyperpigmented dots look like dark brown or black freckles.
They tend to appear most on facial areas around the eyes and on the cheekbones, as well as neck, chest and back. Some patients have a few spots, but there can be hundreds in severe cases. Sometimes the spots are flat but they can also protrude more like a skin tag.
Dermatosis Papulosa Nigrans affects up to 35% of Black people in the United States according to dermnetnz.org.

Diagnosing dermatosis papulosa nigrans
Medical skin lesion diagnosis and removal
Dermatosis Papulosis Nigrans is just one of the very many treatments offered at Cosmedics Skin Clinics.
Very often patients do not know what their blemish is, or else they worry that it is a mole or something cancerous.
Diagnosing the problem is the first step and self-diagnosis is not easy. Our doctors and surgeons are highly trained and experienced, so they’re able to quickly assess blemishes and bumps. Then they can recommend what treatment is best. Many skin lesions can be treated with simple treatments that are not particularly invasive at all, such as laser, cryotherapy (freezing) or electrocautery treatment. For large blemishes or bumps, such as cysts, we can offer surgery.
All treatments are carried out using pain-free methods with our best attention to minimising scarring.
Any mole-like or ‘suspicious’ blemishes can be sent for testing in an independent lab as an essential check for any signs of irregularity.
Private Mole Removal
Cosmedics’ Skin Surgery Laser Clinics offer private mole removal as well as treatment for cysts, skin tags, warts, verruca and other lesions. There are clinics based in London and Bristol, where treatments are carried out using the latest surgical techniques by trained doctors and surgeons.
