Melanoma UK CEO Spots Piers Morgan Melanoma

Melanoma UK’s CEO and founder Gill Nuttall, noticed an unusual blemish on Piers Morgan while watching ITV programme Serial Killers last year.

As a melanoma expert, she’d recently worked with Piers at the launch of the Melanoma UK patient registry. The mark bothered her, so she emailed the presenter direct, saying:

“Piers, at the risk of sounding like a lunatic, I’m just watching your programme and there’s a blemish on your chest. Have you had it checked?”

Piers quickly got it checked out and it was immediately removed. He posted:

“This week, a top dermatologist took one look and immediately cut it out. Much further delay, he informed me, and it might well have turned cancerous. Give that lady a gold star.

Piers Morgan has since spoken out about his experience in several news publications and Gillian has appeared on Good Morning Britain, talking about the story in a bid to raise awareness of melanoma in the UK and highlighting the importance of carrying out regular skin checks and undergoing proper eye examinations.

Gillian says

“If I can see something that I think needs to be looked at and I have no medical qualifications, this just means that we should all be extra vigilant and if we see something on a friend, relative, or in this case a celebrity, speak out and get them to get it checked.  Who knows, you could save a life.”

Melanoma UK

Charity Melanoma UK was founded in 2007 by Gillian Nuttall after she attended medical appointments with Jon Herron, a family friend who was originally diagnosed with melanoma in 2002.

She says:

“Skin cancer and melanoma affects families in a way you can’t imagine.  After seeing how Jon and his family were affected, I knew we had to do something positive.”

The charity assists melanoma patients and their families, helping them to access the right care and support.

Mole Checking

Doctors at Cosmedics Skin Clinics warn their patients to always be vigilant for suspicious moles and to regularly check themselves and loved ones in a detailed ‘top to toe’ mole check, even in the more unusual areas such as the scalp, or under the soles of the feet.

Dr Ross Perry, a leading mole removal expert who is the Company’s founder and Medical Director, calls it the ‘ugly duckling sign’ and advises patients to seek medical attention as soon as possible to rule out skin cancer.

Thankfully the majority of moles are not cancerous, but more of cosmetic concern. These can be removed quickly and painlessly using laser and minor surgery techniques.

Mole Removal Clinics

Cosmedics Skin Clinics offer mole removal in London and Bristol with qualified and experienced doctors. Moles are removed using the latest surgical techniques including laser mole removal; with techniques designed to minimise scarring and make the procedure entirely painless.
