Sun Awareness Week 2015

sun awareness weekThe British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) currently runs a national campaign around skin cancer called Sun Awareness, which includes national Sun Awareness Week in May.

This annual campaign is designed to raise awareness of skin cancer through prevention and detection advice.

  1. Encouraging people to regularly self-examine for skin cancer
  2. Teaching people about the dangers of sunburn and excessive tanning, and to discourage people from using sunbeds, in light of the associated risks of skin cancer

Sun Awareness Week 2015

Sun Awareness Week 2015 runs from Monday 4th to Sunday 10th May 2015.

This year the campaign is being launched with the support of shocking new statistics from the BAD’s survey. The hope is to alert the public to realise the importance of taking better care of their skin.

Statistics in the launch press release include:

  • 96% of those surveyed do not check their skin the recommended once a month for skin cancer
  • 40% never check their skin for signs of skin cancer at all
  • Over 77% would not recognise signs of the disease
  • 72% had been sunburned in the last year
  • 84% are worried about skin cancer in the UK climate
  • 95% know skin cancer rates in the UK are still rising

Mole Checking

Doctors at Cosmedics Skin Clinics warn their patients to always be vigilant for suspicious moles.

Dr Ross Perry, a leading mole removal expert who is the Company’s founder and Medical Director, calls it the ‘ugly duckling sign’ and advises patients to seek medical attention as soon as possible to rule out skin cancer.

Cosmetic Moles

If the mole is deemed to be ‘safe’, then removal on the NHS is now quite unlikely as it will be classed as a cosmetic issue.

Many adults therefore choose private mole removal clinics for treatment. For some this is about peace of mind, for others it is purely an aesthetic issue.

Cosmedics Skin Clinics offer mole removal in London and Bristol with qualified and experienced doctors. Moles are removed using the latest surgical techniques including laser mole removal; with techniques designed to minimise scarring and make the procedure entirely painless.
