Don’t Underestimate Spring Sun

spring sunThe last couple of weeks fabulous weather have made for a memorable Easter for many of us, but this comes with a warning not to underestimate the power of the early sunshine and warm temperatures.

Most of us have taken some time to enjoy the unseasonal warmth by getting outdoors again. The warm weather has seen more people jogging, walking, gardening or simply sitting in the garden. Yet already, there have reports of sunburn as people underestimate the power of the spring sun.

It’s too tempting to grab an hour or two – or even a day outdoors without sun protection – and too easy to forget that you can burn at home at more or less any time of year.

Caroline Cerny, Cancer Research UK’s senior health campaigns manager, says that sunburn is a clear sign that the DNA in your skin cells has been damaged which can, over time, lead to skin cancer; adding

“Everyone loves getting out and about and enjoying the summer sun. It’s essential to take care not to burn.”

Whether you’re on holiday or at home, sunburn can cause long-lasting skin damage.

Look for Suspicious Moles

Doctors warn UK citizens to be vigilant for suspicious moles. This could be a new mole, or one that’s a different colour or shape to the rest. Itching or bleeding are also particular signs to watch for.

Dr Ross Perry, a leading mole removal expert who is the founder and Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics, calls it the ‘ugly duckling sign’ and advises patients to seek medical attention as soon as possible to rule out skin cancer.

Cosmetic Moles

If the mole is deemed to be ‘safe’, then removal on the NHS is now quite unlikely as it will be classed as a cosmetic issue.

Many adults therefore choose private mole removal clinics for treatment. For some this is about peace of mind, for others it is purely an aesthetic issue.

Cosmedics Skin Clinics offer mole removal in London and Bristol with qualified and experienced doctors. Moles are removed using the latest surgical techniques including laser mole removal; with techniques designed to minimise scarring and make the procedure entirely painless.
